I don’t normally go for modern gastrobars. I prefer traditional Spanish eateries, like small restaurants, tapas bars and the occasional foreign place like Japanese, Italian or Asian. 

So, when we decided last minute to go out for a meal on Friday evening we didn’t know where to go. 

There were a couple of new places we wanted to try, but curiously they were closed on a Friday night in mid-July. 

Trip Advisor to the rescue. We knew most of the establishments in their top ten, but not Sensur, which is part of the Hotel Maestranza on Calle Virgen de La Paz. 

We were agreed that we should give it a try. Luckily, they had room for us, despite not having booked. 

Our welcome was professional and friendly. José Manuel and Javier looked after us well and gave us plenty of good advice. The menu was varied and interesting. 

For starters I chose an ensalada de aguacate, con frutos tropicales y anacardos on a base of assorted leaves. Very fresh and delicious, I must say. 

Rita’s choice was tataki de atun and she loved it! 

For my main course I chose solomillo de vaca, grilled a punto. It was red in the middle and just the way I like my fillet steaks. Outstanding value at 22 euros. 

Rita opted for salmon, which she declared to be fabulous! 

Although we were both satt (full), we decided to share a pudding. We chose their home-made cheese-cake. 

Rita, a bit of a connoisseuse of good food, declared it to be the best she had ever eaten, better even than her own! 

I drank two glasses of Lunares, a local Ronda red wine, while Rita chose a verdejo from Bornos.

So, a very pleasant experience in a large, minimalist, modern restaurant with air-conditioning, soft music and comfortable chairs. 

The bill came to 87 euros; quite expensive, but excellent value for money. 

We’ll be back!
